The Beginning of Nothing

In a continuation of the last post, I have decided to begin a small-ish project. This will be an online 2D game, shock horror.

A day or two ago I started looking around for suitable libraries in Java to (try) create this game, and came across a few, but only one that seemed to stand out from the rest.
That is Slick. It seems to be a well rounded library for creating 2D games in Java, and it supports an already created map editor, Tiled, which makes my job that much easier.

I had a wee play around with it to see how it all works, and got a very simple window rendering a giant black background, good start don’t you think? By the way, the FPS is so low because of all the things it has to render.

Anyway, I have started the proper game now and seem to be enjoying it for some stupid reason so I will probably start posting the development progress of it here.
I plan the game to be somewhat like the old RPG games, with a replica of the battle system from Shining Force, and with a bit of online multiplayer thrown in there. I will need a name for it, so if anyone has any ideas let me know.

In other news, it looks as though I will be getting a free BFBC2 key very soon, so I will most likely end up posting my thoughts on that too.

I’ll only help name your game if you promise that it will remain at 11k fps

It will be at least 11k fps. None of this extreme graphics, your character will be a white pixel moving around a black scrolling map. Extreme RPG, no lights to guide your way, you just have to guess.
