It has been well over a month now since Guild Wars 2 was released, and despite all the hype that has been built up for however many years, it actually turned out pretty good. The usual pattern the past few years for new MMOs has always been: hype, hype, hype, release, die. Nothing seems to last long in the MMO genre nowadays – for new games at least. The spectacle and wonder of the new game certainly draws people in, but they can’t seem to hold them. Guild Wars 2 is holding people. It is living up to all the hype, and people are still playing in large amounts – and this is great, because it really is a wonderful game. I say all this just to preface the following story – I really do love this game, and despite what I’m about to talk about, I will still play and love … Continue reading
With the release of indoor walls last week, I’ve started playing Wurm properly again. For the past year or two (I honestly cannot remember now), I have had a pretty decent account in most skills that I was using for day to day skills, building, mining etc. While I had this account, I turned my ‘Budda’ account into a priest, meaning it could start to cast spells and stuff, but be fairly useless for building, improving, and pretty much every other skill. Unfortunately a couple of months ago I was forced to sell the good account as I was low on cash, so having started playing again, I was left without a proper account to play with. This led me to the decision to de-priest my original account. So I slowly watched my priest’s Faith drop from 52 down to 30, at which point it automatically de-priested. It was a … Continue reading
I picked up this game sometime last week while a bit bored and in the mood for an RTS. Stronghold Kingdoms is a “Free2Play MMORTS”, and having played other games that claim that genre before (see: SAGA), I was a bit dubious as to whether it would be worth playing. I am happy to say however that I have been having fun with this game, and am still playing it each day a week later. Although this game still totes a beta tag in it’s name, it has been out and playable for a while now, having largely flown under the radar that I am aware of. In the past month however, it was put up on Steam under the new F2P tag, so there has been a decent influx of players to the game, and the game website states that there is over 500,000 players now, so there must … Continue reading
I think it’s about time for a random long post about generally nothing since I haven’t really done one since the first post I made, so I’m going to do a bit of a spiel about content in games, specifically games with content coming out of their ass. A large amount of this post will be referencing RIFT (which I haven’t played in a while) but the ideas can be translated to most AAA games out these days.
A week or two ago Dante introduced me to a game called RIFT. And by introduced, I mean I saw him playing it and I was bored as fuck, so I went out and bought it. RIFT is an MMORPG…and that’s about it. There’s not too much to say other than it is a mumorpuger, as you can pretty much guess what is involved. Lots of men running around dressed up as elf women, lots of quests, and lots of killing random animals and people that live outside of cities that did nothing but look at you strangely. Even though it is another generic mamapiggy, it does generic surprisingly well…either that, or I’m actually more bored that I realise and could be entertained by anything. The main story behind RIFT (as far as I’ve been able to make out at least) is that the world is pretty much going to … Continue reading
Wurm Online – Freedom server map seen from SE area Wurm Online is a strange game for strange people. It is for people who don’t mind spending hours and hours on something, for relatively little gain. For people thatenjoy the community of a game just as much as the game itself. And for people that don’t mind bugs. If this sounds like you, congratulations! There are only a few thousand people like you in the world, including me. Wurm is a survival game, to put it simply. You are thrown into the wild with little more than a few tools, and a source of light. The light is somewhat necessary, as there is a night and day cycle, with one day in real life equal to approx. 8 days in game. As soon as it turns dark, you’d better hope you know what you’re doing, or have some help, otherwise … Continue reading
Mortal Online is a game whos development I’ve been following for a while now, and it is finally at the stage of Open Beta. What is Mortal Online? It is a new MMO coming out that, in my opinion, is nothing like the horde of generic MMORPGs that are out today. Yes there are skills, weapons, mounts, and spells, but not in the way you’d expect. There is no defined level on each character, and combat is mainly based on the person’s proper skill instead of the characters skill level. It is in first person mode, with point and click combat similar to FPS games, except with swords and bows. The above image is a promo image for the open beta, but it is an image from in-game. From what I have played of the game in closed beta, the graphics are pretty damn good compared to most of the … Continue reading
